Abstract: The National Fire Service (later, the Auxiliary Fire Service) fire-bomb blitz on Meifod was carried out under 'surprise' conditions with no previous information about the location of the test given. Two units from Welshpool and one each from Llanfair Caereinion, Castle Caereinion, and Guilsfield, were detailed to cover the fires. Imaginary fires were dealt with at Dyffryn Hall, the home of Clement Davies MP where babies evacuated from London were staying with him and his wife.
