Abstract: Images of the 1956 National Eisteddfod of Wales from Aberdare, including images of participants from Ruthin Grammar School (E56/1-2 and E56/7A-8), a party from Pwllheli wearing Welsh national dress on the beach (E56/10), a dance party from Abertillery (E56/15), and Janet Wallace from Abertillery (E56/16), the Orsedd ceremony and procession (E56/3-6, E56/20-25 and E56/28), including images of Dyfnallt being escorted to his car by the police having fallen ill due to the heat, a brass band member with his tuba (E56/8), the Rev. Elwyn Howells, who had just been accepted into the Gorsedd, with his daughter Annwen Rowland Howells (E56/9, E56/11 and E56/13), the new archdruid, Rev William Morris (E56/12), a general view of the Eisteddfod field (E56/14, E56/17 and E56/26), Joseph Davies and John Williams of Exeter (E56/18), Y Cymro cartoonist Hywel Harris (E56/19), a dance party (E56/27-27A), a group of schoolchildren who had received a scholarship to visit the eisteddfod (E56/29) and Geraint Lewis of Llanymddyfri (E56/32-33).

Computer file. Aberystwyth : National Library of Wales, 2000-2002 (Geoff Charles digitisation project) Original, master file captured in uncompressed TIFF format. Minimal tonal adjustments using levels and curves in PhotoShop. Master files archived as pc format TIFFS. On-screen display files resized and adjusted for viewing on gamma 2.2 monitors in PhotoShop and saved in JPEG format. 36 image files; Heidelberg Nexscan F4100 capture device using Linocolor v6.0.4 software. Filter settings: light contour-0.5, dark countour-0.5, smoothnes-0.6, countour width-1.0, scan spot size-4.0. Target resolution for hi-res capture was 300dpi at a factor of 450% resulting in +/- 6000 x 5000 pixels; screen res:+/- 600 x 500 pixels at 72dpi; screen-res and thumbnail copies use jpeg compression at setting: 7 in Adobe Photoshop v6.0; 8 bit grayscale; hi-res TIFFs: Gray Gamma 1.8 icc profile embedded.
